FAQ
Is QuietCount free?
Yes. It's free, with no account and no ads.
How does it count words?
It uses your browser's built-in Unicode word rules, so punctuation isn't counted, "don't" is one word, and a hyphenated word like "well-known" counts once, like most word processors.
How is reading time worked out?
Reading time assumes 238 words per minute (an average adult silent reading speed); speaking time assumes 150 words per minute.
Does it see what I type or browse?
No. It only reads the text you selected, on the tab you're on, right after you click its icon, press its shortcut or use its right-click item. It stores nothing, never reads password fields and makes no network requests.
Why doesn't it work on some pages?
Browsers don't let extensions read built-in pages (like edge:// pages) or the add-ons store. Some editors, such as Google Docs, draw text themselves, so their selection can't be read; paste the text into the popup instead.
Is there a Firefox or Chrome version?
It's coming to Microsoft Edge first. Other stores may come later.
Free forever. If it helps, you can buy me a coffee.
